Greytown Centennial Kindergarten, in South Wairarapa, is half way between Masterton and Upper Hutt. Greytown has recently become well known for its variety of cafés and restaurants which attract a great number of visitors and tourists every weekend.

The parents of the children who attend Greytown kindergarten come from a variety of working backgrounds including, farming and agriculture, business, the Hospitality Industry, building and those who commute to work in Wellington.
Children attending Greytown Kindergarten come from as far afield as Carterton, Greytown, and Featherston through to Martinborough.

Sessions:

Greytown Kindergarten has two teachers and a teacher aide for both morning and afternoon sessions, with a roll of thirty children attending in each session.

A session for 4-5 year olds is held every morning from 8.30 – 12.30 with the children having lunch at kindergarten every morning. This session also includes process cooking two mornings a week, with the children making their own sandwiches for morning tea on the other three days.

The 3-4 year olds attend three two hour sessions each week from 1.15 – 3.15pm. The sessions are planned to meet and extend the strengths, interests and learning needs of individual and groups of children.

Philosophy:

The teachers at Greytown kindergarten are committed to a bi-cultural approach to teaching and learning and have developed a reciprocal relationship with our local marae at Papawai. The inclusion of Te reo and tikanga Māori is an integral part of our programme.

The teaching team are dedicated to empowering children to realise their potential through enriching, challenging and meaningful experiences in partnership with parents, whanau and the community. We try to provide an environment for children that is respectful and inclusive of culture, gender and equality.
